Southern Dippers’ New Year Dips funds will help local allergy sufferers

The Southern Dippers’ New Year Dips have raised £2,128 for the Anaphylaxis UK charity with all funds being directed to support those people in the Isle of Man living with the risks posed by a serious allergic reaction and anaphylaxis.

The Southern New Year Dips have become one of the great Manx traditions of New Year’s Day.

The 2024 events were no exception with hundreds of people starting 2024 with a bracing swim from the beaches of Port St Mary, Port Erin and Gansey.

Allergy Wise

The AllergyWise training provides education about allergic reactions, what triggers them, plus how to manage those allergy sufferers at serious risk.

As well as risk management delegates are also taught how to use adrenaline auto-injectors, such as an EpiPen®, should a child or adult suffer a severe allergic reaction.

Since the dips started over 20 years, the event has raised over £70,000 for a variety of charities, with the vast majority of sums raised remaining on-Island to help local good causes.
