Speeding Driver Failed to Stop

A driver caught speeding in a 30 zone then failed to stop when ordered to by police.

Nicholas Lowe, 45, of Ballasalla, appeared before Magistrates on Thursday.

The court heard Lowe was driving Ballagawne in Colby on December 11 when he was caught by a roadside police officer doing 43mph in a 30 zone.

An officer told him to stop and Lowe indicated and appeared to slow down before driving off.

When police found him later, Lowe said he didn’t know he was being asked to stop and that he believed it could have been a builder in the road due to the florescent jacket.

He also apologised to officers for not stopping.

Duty advocate James Peterson said his client accepted he was speeding and that he should have stopped and wanted to apologise for his actions.

Magistrates fined him £220 and ordered him to pay £50 costs. They also endorsed Lowe’s license with four points.
