Starmer to Stand Down

Sir Keir Starmer has announced he will resign as Prime Minister.

He was only elected with a majority of 174 seats in July 2024.

However, with sliding polls, a party which had run out of patience and with Andy Burnham lurking in the background since his election in Makerfield, the end has come.

Speaking outside 10 Downing Street, Sir Keir outlined some of his achievements including cutting waiting lists in hospitals, cutting poverty amongst children and ridding anti-semitism from the Labour Party.

However, he added: “The question my party is asking now is if I am best placed to lead us into the next general election, I have heard that answer and I accept that answer with good grace.”

Sir Keir said he will resign as party leader, with him remaining in post as PM until a new leader is chosen.
