Steps to it at Jurby Beach

Stepping out onto Jurby Beach should be a little easier after repairs carried out by the Department of Infrastructure.

The beach could be accessed by the footpath from Sartfield Road, but the wooden steps leading down had taken a battering.

An Infrastructure Department spokesperson said: “While this is a benign environment when the weather is good, the coast here can take a battering in stormy weather.

“In the past, tidal action has smashed up the steps that dropped down from the concrete base of the main structure.”

They added: “Rather than replace like for like in the certain knowledge that at some point wooden steps will be washed away in a future winter storm, the lower steps have been replaced by a set made from galvanised steel.

“These steps have been designed to allow water flow through the structure rather than take the full force of the waves. The steps are bolted to the concrete base of main structure.”
