First Named Storm to Hit British Isles

The first named storm of the season, Amy, is expected to hit the British Isles on Friday and Saturday.

Amy is expected to bring gusts of up to 80mph in certain places, according to the UK’s Met Office.

Most of the storm is expected to hit Northern Ireland, Scotland and the north of England and probably impact here too.

The UK’s warning comes into force for northern Britain at 6pm on Friday and is in force until the end of Saturday, but we don’t yet have any warnings in place for the island.

However, there is some uncertainty as to which route the worst of the weather will take, so stay tuned (though not necessarily to Amy McDonald who we had to use because Sam couldn’t think of any other famous Amy’s that he likes).
