The chairman of Peel Lifeboat Station has added a new string to his bow.
Stuart Blackley has successfully added Shannon Launch and Recovery system (SLARS) Operator to his roles.
During an assessment this week Stuart demonstrated the skills required to safely manoeuvre the station’s lifeboat and 37-tonne tractor from the boathouse into the sea and back again.
The station said: “A well-trained and dedicated shore crew, which includes the SLARS operator, is essential if the lifeboat is to be launched safely and efficiently on a rescue.
“Training for volunteers like Stuart and equipment, such as the £1.5 million SLARS rig, are provided through the generosity of our many supporters.
“Thank you. Together we are lifesavers!”
