Students Must Get Earlier Bus

The government has chosen to shave an hour off the time students can use their school bus passes.

School bus cards SCH 1 and SCH 2 will be valid for subsidised travel to and from school only on school days until 5pm from Monday.

Students currently are able to use their school passes up until 6pm, but from Monday any student using the bus after 5pm will have to pay the half price fare.

The change does not include college students who attend later classes.

Increase

For the majority of students who catch a later bus, the price difference is 10p.

However, for some children the cost could rise from 50p to £1.80, based on the cost of a child journey from Douglas to Port Erin.

Bus Vannin said: “Many schools, especially secondary, now close earlier than when the measure was introduced – activities are normally finished by 4pm, with students off-site by 4.15pm.

“Bus Vannin would also like to remind SCH 3 users that these cards are valid only when supported by a current College Card when boarding the service bus.”
