A team of six Manx race walkers took part in the English Schools Race Walking Championships on Saturday.
Held in windy conditions on the track at Bedford, there were some excellent races and a number of standout performances.
Lilee Fletcher dominated the Junior Girls 2000m, setting a track personal best and knocking over a minute off the previous championship best with a rapid 9mins 31secs.
Timothy Perry moved up to the Intermediate Boys 3000m this year, and added a third gold to his Championship tally. He led from the gun and was delighted to set a personal best.
Honey-Mae Davies had a dream championship debut in the Intermediate 3000m. In third at halfway, she reeled in the girls ahead and took gold in a time just two seconds outside her best.
In the same race, Amy Surgeon predictably walked a committed race. After a steady start she finished strongly, but couldn’t quite catch the third placed athlete.
Jack Davies walked a controlled, close race to take bronze in the under 13 1500m. The first three were covered by just 10 secs and it was arguably the best race of the day.
Debutant Polly Davies walked a sensible race and made all the right decisions en-route to a solid 5th place in the Junior 2000m.
A huge thank you to Steve Partington for the above report.
