Sulby and District Rifle Club’s Julian Teare and Mark Cain emerged victorious in the 101 Challenge Cup, a postal pairs competition shot towards the end of last year.
Teare posted a solid 97, while Cain followed up with an excellent 99, his best score of the season.
“The card looked like a ton through the scope afterwards,” Cain recalled.

However, there was a squeaker for the officials to gauge during marking.
“Sometimes you get them, sometimes you don’t — that’s the nature of the sport,” he added philosophically.
Their combined total of 196 was enough to secure a clear win over the Laxey pairing of John Wood and Adrian Cowin, who finished second on 194, despite Wood recording his second possible of the season.
Castletown also featured prominently, securing joint 3rd with two well-matched teams on 189.
