A 17-year-old who took a Manx Utilities van for a joyride will be sentenced by the Court of General Gaol Delivery.
Callum Collister, of Port Erin, pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified and taking the van without the owners consent.
Prosecutors told Magistrates that Collister took the van between 3:30pm and 4pm while it was parked in Colby.
Manx Utilities reported the theft and followed the route of the van using an internal tracker, with the Police spotting it in Kirk Michael.
They followed the van, which was sad to be driven “frequently over the [speed] limit” before officers stopped it using a stinger that forced the vehicle to a stop after colliding with another vehicle.
Police arrested Collister on stopping the van, he later admitted taking it in a police interview.
Magistrates ruled that the sentencing powers of the summary courts was not sufficient for the seriousness of the case, with the chairwoman telling Collister they had “no choice” but to send him to the higher court.
A social enquiry report was requested, with Collister due to appear before the Court of General Gaol Delivery on September 6.
Collister was bailed with magistrates warning him “you are not to drive, three simple words, you are not to drive”.
