Temporary speed limits will be introduced on the Mountain Road from next Monday.
The temporary 40mph speed limit will be in place for about a week from Creg Ny Baa to Hillberry, Onchan.
The DOI said this is to allow for a number of different road maintenance tasks to take place.
Speeds will be further reduced to 20mph through work sites.
Temporary traffic lights will be in use where necessary.
Work is to include road surface patch repairs, refreshing lining and drainage maintenance.
