The Constabulary’s police dogs have been praised for their exceptional contribution to fighting crime.
Police dogs played a big role in helping seize over £1m in drugs and nearly £100,000 in cash at the island’s ports between April 2024 and March 2025.
Their efforts were highlighted during the Chief Constable’s Annual Report debate in Tynwald, where Justice and Home Affairs Minister Jane Poole-Wilson described the work to secure ports of entry as “phenomenally successful” and offered “huge thanks to all who play their part, including our canine friends”.
Andrew Smith also emphasised that while police officers and their tools are often recognised, “we should also recognise the canine part of the force, because without them, I think it’s fair to say we may not have been quite successful as a Constabulary”.
Stationed at the island’s seaport and airport, the dogs form a key part of the Constabulary’s “Securing Our Island” strategy, which aims to prevent, protect, and pursue organised crime.
