The Penultimate Tynwald Sitting

Tynwald opens its June sitting with a tightly framed set of questions that lean heavily on constituency issues and departmental performance.

Arbory, Castletown and Malew Members dominate the early exchanges with Jason Moorhouse seeking an update on parking arrangements at Arbory School following last month’s commitments, while Tim Glover asks how Manx Care coped during the TT period.

The Treasury faces a cluster of technical questions, ranging from the number of income‑tax verification requests issued last year to the level of contingency built into capital projects.

Members will also probe the meaning of “optimism bias” in the Horse Tramway business case, and ask what support is available for visa‑holders and employers adjusting to higher salary thresholds.

Education policy features prominently too, with questions on NEET figures and digital device provision in schools, alongside queries on the future of modern sidecar racing, Noble’s bed‑capacity review, and long‑term sewerage charges.

Penultimate Sitting

From there, Tynwald moves into one of the busiest legislative blocks of the year.

More than 20 statutory documents are scheduled, including two Social Security Application Orders, a full suite of Health and Safety amendments, and updates under the European Union and Trade Act.

Changes to animal health rules, the Transfer of Functions Order for government property, and the Unified Scheme pension amendment also feature, alongside immigration policies, VAT instruments and the UK reciprocal National Insurance agreement.
