Tom Durrant has made a massive donation of £100,000 to the Queen’s Pier Restoration trust.
Having spent years campaigning and working to get the pier reopened, Tom was also the focus of the documentary Grandad and the Pier.
Having been a founding member of the trust and being the one to sign the lease with the government that allowed the pier to be reopened, Tom has led the way on the campaign, including going into schools and community groups to share the trust’s vision.
The charity said: “This is a large community project with no financial support from the government. Therefore, since 2017, we have relied on the community to support us in every way, and from the progress we have made so far, it is obvious just how much fantastic support we have received.
“This donation from Tom epitomises the dedication and love he has for the project he had the vision for and the effort he has put in to get this off the ground.
“The Chairman, Trustees, and all volunteers would like to thank Tom for this most generous donation.”
The money will go towards paying for the restoration of more bays of the pier.
