A group of eight Manx athletes made the trip to the Etihad Indoor Athletics Stadium for the Manchester Indoor Open Meeting.
Sunday’s (November 30) meeting was very early in the season, but a great indicator as to how winter training is progressing as athletes look towards the various Indoor Championships in January.
The event saw five island records, four on the track and one in the field.
Manchester Meeting
Finn Taggart set an U17 300m record, Abi Sinclair an U17 600m record followed by two from Aimee Christian & Ben Sinclair in the Senior 600m races.
Finn set a pb in both the 60m & 300m, Abi a pb in the 600m, and Aimee a pb in both the 600m & 60m hurdles.
Lara Smith had an absolutely fabulous Pole Vault competition with a new PB of 3.20m.
Not only was this an Island record, it was also a North of England age group record.
Personal Bests
Sophie Kaighin produced fantastic performances in all three of her events and achieved two new pbs in the 60m flat and 60m hurdles, whilst Frankie Kennedy was just shy of her high jump pb but did manage to set one in the 60m with an amazing run to finish first.
Andrea Ecolango had two solid runs over the 60m, just missing her pb by 0.09 secs and it was lovely to see her return to competition after a lot of setbacks in her outdoor season.
The last 60m races produced some great Manx rivalry in two very close races, with Ben just getting the better of Finn, and Andrea just pipping Aimee to the post.
