Douglas City Council has completed tree felling and replanting behind bungalows on Baldwin Road after storm‑damaged trees raised safety concerns earlier this year.
Thirty‑nine mature pine and spruce trees have been removed and replaced with 40 new broadleaf species chosen for their resilience in exposed urban areas.
Shrubs and companion planting have also been added to improve privacy between Ballanard Field and nearby homes.
The Council says the wider mix of species will strengthen biodiversity and create more robust habitats.

Councillor Natalie Byron‑Teare, Chair of the Regeneration and Community Committee, said the scheme balances safety with environmental improvement.
“These works were carried out with safety as the top priority, following very real concerns for residents after storm damage to nearby homes. However, it was equally important to us that the area was not simply cleared, but carefully replanted.
“We have ensured all trees removed have been replaced with species better suited to the location, creating a safer environment while maintaining and enhancing the green space.”
The Council describes the completed project as a long-term investment in both community safety and the quality of the local environment.
