Watsons Nurseries has shared the heartbreaking news of the deaths of Robert and Carolyn Watson.
After over 60 years together, the devoted couple passed away within 24 hours of each other on January 7 and 8.
Having moved their family business to Greeba in the 1980s, Robert was still working at the centre into the end of 2024.
The family business said: “We are heartbroken, but take some comfort that they are together, always and forever a team.”
Public Service
Mr Watson was a past President of Rotary and was also Chair of Marown Commissioners, which led to the development of Glen Vine. He was a sought-after judge for many produce and garden shows, and particularly enjoyed going around in the van with his beloved Westies.
Mrs Watson was also a keen public servant, a dedicated supporter of Hospice and past Chair of the Douglas Hospice Committee, which raised significant amounts for the charity, she also supported many other charities on the island.
The Nurseries said: “Robert and Carolyn spent over 60 happy years together, enjoying their holidays and spending time with friends and family. They will be hugely missed by all their family, friends and the team here are the nurseries.
“They leave their two sons Nick and Simon; Carolyn’s loving brother John, his wife Dee and family; Robert’s brother Tim and his family; daughters-in-law Pam and Nicola; grand-daughters Katie, Alice, Victoria and Charlotte.”
Tributes
Since the nurseries’ announcement tributes have poured in with people praising the couple for their kindness, generosity and friendliness, while others shared happy memories they had with them.
Marown Commissioners extended the board’s “deepest condolences to all their family”.
