Unemployment up For Fourth Month in a Row

The number of people out of work has reached its highest level in over three years.

At the end of January there were 370 people registered as unemployed, up from 345 in December.

While the unemployment rate is still low, 0.8%, it is the highest number of people registered as out of work since September 2021.

There was also 586 job vacancies remaining at the Job centre in January 2025, which is an increase of 35 vacancies compared to the previous month (December 2024).

Of these, 62% (361) were full time positions and 38% (225) were part time.

The International Labour Organisation estimates that 815 individuals are unemployed and looking for work in January 2025 compared with 790 in December 2024.

This amounts to an unemployment rate of 1.7%.
