Union’s Concern Over Driver Fatigue

Unite the Union has raised concerns about the number of hours cover staff may be on the roads for.

With its members in the sixth day of their 10 day strike, cover drivers are being used, including some management from Bus Vannin.

Reacting to today’s bus schedule, the union said: “If this is being delivered by a very small number of drivers, that raises clear concerns about excessive duty lengths and fatigue risk in a safety-critical public service.

“We also understand managers are being redeployed to facilitate services. If they are behind the wheel, who is carrying out their operational and safety oversight roles?”

We have contacted the DoI for a response.
