This week marks Dyslexia Awareness Week, and it shines a spotlight on the experiences of the dyslexic community.
Ten percent of the population impacted by dyslexia, there are more than 6.7 million unique stories from across the UK that highlight the critical importance of early identification and supportive interventions.
Dyslexia Awareness Week runs from October 7 to 13, and the theme for this year is ‘What’s Your Story?’ which “resonates deeply” with the Dyslexia Advocacy Group IOM.
The group recognise that local not only raise awareness but also drive home the need for tailored educational strategies and policies that ensure every individual with dyslexia can thrive.
Why Local Stories Matter
- Community Voice: Sharing local stories from the Isle of Man will help personalise the challenges and successes related to dyslexia, illustrating the urgent need for enhanced support and recognition.
- Policy Impact: These firsthand accounts will enhance the group’s upcoming presentation to Tynwald Members on November 19, providing compelling evidence to advocate for significant policy changes
The group are seeking video clips or audio recordings detailing personal experiences with dyslexia; From academic challenges to triumphs over adversity, your story can inspire change.
Contributions can be emailed to dyslexiaadvocacy2024@gmail.com (videos involving children should include parental consent).
