Vacancies Rejected Under Framework

Isle of Man Government Office, Douglas

A new recruitment control system introduced by the government has resulted in three vacancies being rejected and seven deferred in its first reporting period.

The figures have been revealed by Chief Minister Alf Cannan.

The Recruitment Control Framework, implemented on January 20 2025, requires departments to submit quarterly reports on hiring activity.

In response to a question from Speaker Juan Watterson, the Chief Minister confirmed that the initial data, covering up to March 31 2025, showed “a total of three recruitment requests presented to the recruitment panels were rejected, while 7 additional cases were deferred or put on hold pending further consideration”.

Mr Cannan noted that the figures did not include roles rejected internally by departments before reaching the panels, as these are “not recorded centrally”.

He added that the truncated reporting period, aligned with wider quarterly cycles, meant the data was not fully representative.

A clearer picture is expected in the Q2 report, covering April to June 2025.
