Singer, song-writer and all round Manx icon Vida LaFierce has dipped her heels into country music for her latest single Smooth Talker.
Vida said the song, written around TT last year, was never intended as a country song, but it has developed into an absolutely banger of one.
While the writing process can be a long and sometimes infuriating one, Vida said Smooth Talker came together really quickly.
“It’s the only song I’ve ever had the good luck that it all comes out in one go, normally, I’ll get a verse or a chorus and then have to come back to it a couple weeks later, or even months later and really spend time trying to get it right.
“With this one, I literally sat down and it came out in one go. Obviously, there were edits and stuff, but the whole song came out in one go.
‘And at the end, I was like, actually, I’ve written a country song!”
Much like Vida’s previous single, Heels, Smooth Talker is a real ear worm that will just keep growing in your head.
While the song is pure Vida, she was keen to emphasise the role her producer played.
Vida said: “I started working with a country music producer on it, and it was like he went into my head and looked around for exactly what I wanted.
“I even at one point hummed a voice message of a guitar bit I wanted and before I’d sent it, he came back, so it was like it was psychic, he just sort of did everything and I’m super, super, super pleased with it.”You can hear a clip of Smooth Talker below and it is available online on Tunes, Spotify, Apple Music and other digital platforms.
