Onchan residents and commuters face two sets of roadworks at either end of the village from Monday.
Isle of Man Energy began emergency mains replacement works on Whitebridge Road this week, with traffic lights now controlling vehicle flow near Windemere Drive.
The utility company said the essential works are “expected to be on-going for several weeks”.
Meanwhile, Manx Utilities will start essential water network works at Corkill’s roundabout from Monday, lasting about two weeks.
The planned works follow a recent fault which affected water supplies to a number of properties.
A Manx Utilities spokesperson post: “We understand this is a busy route and that the works will cause disruption due to the location and traffic management required, and we are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause.”
The improvements will provide an alternative supply route if issues occur in future and reduce the risk of more widespread water outages.
Temporary traffic management including lane restrictions, diversions and one-way systems will be in place, though access to local businesses including Corkill’s will be maintained.
Manx Utilities added: “We have worked with our contractor and the Department of Infrastructure to plan these works carefully and minimise disruption as far as possible.”
