Gender equality, the war in Gaza and green energy were all topics at this year’s annual Illiam Dhone memorial at Hango Hill.
Mark Kermode and Cesar Joughin both spoke at this year’s event, marking 362 since he was executed on the orders of the Early of Stanley.
The Mec Vannin leader outlined how Dhone, who led the Manx rebellion against the Stanley family, was killed and why he remains an inspiration to Manx nationalists today.
Cesar gave his oration almost entirely in Manx, changing to English only when calling for the Manx government to publicly condemn the Israeli offensive against Palestine.
He said: “You were quick (and rightly so) to condemn the actions of Russia when they invaded Ukraine in 2022.
“Unfortunately we haven’t heard a peep from you as Isreal is quite publicly massacring the Palestinian people in a wanton display ofunfeeling malice.
“This is a message from the Manx people, condemn this genocide and send aid to the Palestinian people. Your silence has been deafening.”
