Manx singer Jess Quigley stunned crowds at the Royal Albert Hall after being given the opportunity to perform a solo at the iconic venue.
She performed at Christmas with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the British Imperial Military Band and the Royal Choral Society, compered by Jess Gillam and Greg Beardsell.
Members of the National Youth Choir, which she joined in September, were able to audition to sing the first verse solo of ‘Once in Royal David’s City’.
Stunning Solo
Jess said: “We went and rehearsed the week before in central London with 110 members of the National Youth Choir to familiarise ourselves with the music and practice with the conductor for the events (Richard Cooke).
“It was a lovely chance to get to know better my fellow members I hadn’t met on our Discovery Weekend in September.
“I travelled back to the UK the week after the rehearsals for my first performance of four. It was an amazing atmosphere, and unlike anything I had experienced before.”
Full Capacity
The Royal Albert Hall was at capacity of over 5,000 people for every performance, which included a concert in the British Sign Language Series and accessible performances.
Jess said that the National Youth Choir “jumped at the chance” to “Christmas-tify” themselves and even had choreography with Santa Claus and the Grinch both making an appearance.
She added: “The best way to finish a run of four concerts over two days was by singing the ‘Once in Royal David’s City’ solo to a silent Albert Hall.
“This was an experience that I will never forget and am incredibly grateful for. I hope we get invited back next year!”
