Webster Crowned World Champion

Sarah Webster has won her race at the World 24-hour Running Championships, held on a 1500m circuit at Albi in southern France.

Sarah has won the women’s title in a field of 161 by a big margin and has set a new world record distance, beating the previous mark set in 2023 by the Japanese athlete who was third today.

The first three in today’s race all beat the previous record.

World Champion Webster

Sarah finished fifth overall including the men in a field of 366.

She completed 185 full laps, a distance of 277.559 kilometres, more than 172 miles.

The final distance is to be confirmed once the distance of her incomplete lap when the race finished is added (at least I think that’s how it works).

To add to all this, Sarah was the leading member of the Great Britain women’s team who have also won the team contest by a big margin.

A truly incredible performance by an incredible athlete who gave so much to athletics on the Isle of Man during her years living here.
