Manx Telecom has set out a way for residents to find out when they can actually get fibre installed.
Residents across the island have commented this year that they have been told fibre is available, but then it turns out not to be so simple.
Largely, this has been due to the need for extra infrastructure to be installed to allow the network to reach private homes and businesses from the street.
MT says to help explain where each area is at, it has created a traffic light system to explain when fibre will be available.
For residents who haven’t yet switched to fibre:
- Green: Fibre is available already; you can place an order with your provider now.
- Amber: Fibre is available, but additional installation steps may be required. MT and service providers will assist in facilitating the process.
- Red: Fibre is not yet available, but network expansion is underway. MT will provide updates on progress and availability.

Earlier today, Manx Telecom confirmed it intends to begin to switch off the copper network starting next year, with that completing by 2029.
