Isle of Man Meats says it doesn’t have the facilities on island to allow it to manufacture sausages and bacon.
Since the new range launched in Tesco stores, residents have pointed out the packaging says they are produced and packaged in the UK.
Michael Barker, General Manager of IOM Meat Company told Manx.News: “The manufacturing of bacon and sausages is a specialist process, and the Isle of Man Meat Company does not currently have the facilities on-island to undertake this production.
W”e are therefore utilising one of Tesco’s approved UK manufacturing partners, who produce these items using Manx beef and pork supplied directly by us through our existing UK supply chain.
“The finished products are packaged and delivered to Isle of Man stores as part of Tesco’s standard daily distribution schedule.”
Locally Produced
The news has been met with disappointment from some on the island and given other companies a chance to point out they can make their sausages on the island.
Willaston butchers said: Our sausages are made daily from Manx meats which travels to us from Isle of Man Meats…. Just 2 minutes down the road ! …. It doesn’t get fresher than that!”
A&J Quality Butchers Isle of Man and Andreas Meat Co have also pointed out their meat is produced locally on the island.
