The High Court has issued a General Civil Restraint Order against a convicted fraudster, preventing her from filing further claims without judicial permission.
The order, effective for two years until August 5 2027, was imposed by First Deemster Andrew Corlett.
Wendy-Elizabeth Megson was jailed in 2023 after being found guilty of two counts of deception, two counts of a charity offence, and nine counts of benefit fraud.
Deemster Corlett said: “Mrs Megson has wasted an enormous amount of court administration and judge time in dealing with her various wholly unmeritorious claims.”
He noted her “scattergun approach” in filing multiple claims, including against King William’s College, Mann & Partners, and government officials, which were struck out as “wholly without merit”.
The court highlighted that neither a limited nor an extended CRO would suffice.
In his ruling, Deemster Corlett said: “This is a very clear case where a general civil restraint order is necessary,”
Mrs Megson, who was absent from the hearing, had sought an adjournment, citing a flawed process and plans to escalate the matter to an unspecified “International Court of Human Rights.”
The order permits Mrs Megson to pursue meritorious claims with judicial approval but aims to curb frivolous litigation.
“She cannot resurrect these ancient claims and essentially take up the time of court staff,” Deemster Corlett concluded.
