The first candidate has formally entered the race for Douglas North ahead of the 2026 House of Keys election.
Hugo Yates, 47, a father of two and IT infrastructure manager for a multinational financial corporation, says he is standing to deliver what he calls “real freedom, borders that work for us and for an open, honest government that truly works for the island and its communities”.
Mr Yates has lived on the Isle of Man for 20 years, during which time he ran a business, married and started a family.
He said: “I fell in love with the Isle of Man, its culture, its history, its people and I believe this is one of the best places to live.”
And added: “I’m standing for the 2026 House of Keys as I want to see the Island and its people thrive well into the future. I want a government that is not only relatable but dependable and approachable.”
Mr Yates said his professional background had equipped him to handle complex issues and deal with people.
Sitting MHKs David Ashford and John Wannenburgh have yet to announce if they intend to seek re-election.
