The island’s free Energy Efficiency Scheme has been extended after securing an extra £100,000 to support residents facing rising energy costs.
More than 4,500 households have already received upgrades since the scheme launched in 2022, with £1.7 million worth of improvements delivered.
Eligible applicants can access up to £820 of free energy‑saving kit, including loft insulation, LED bulbs and smart heating controls, plus £525 towards installation for qualifying groups.

Government estimates suggest a household installing all available measures could save up to £700 a year on energy bills.
Environment Minister Clare Barber MHK said: “Improving the energy efficiency of our homes is one of the most practical steps we can take to help residents manage rising energy costs, while also playing our part in meeting the island’s net zero commitments. I’d encourage anyone who hasn’t yet applied to check their eligibility.”
Recent installations at Kings Reach in Ramsey and Saddle Mews in Douglas have already cut bills by £100 to £130 a year, with further savings from LED lighting.
DEFA will launch a follow‑up low carbon heating scheme later this year as part of wider plans to reduce emissions by 35% by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050.
