The most recent private sector housing conditions survey found that 16.3% of dwellings on the Isle of Man are unsatisfactory due to unfitness or poor repair, with 4.3% deemed unfit.
The findings were discussed in Keys this week, with DEFA Minister Clare Barber confirming the data is now publicly available after concerns were raised about its accessibility.
The survey (2018-2020), which cost £53,000, was designed to update the 2007 assessment and guide future housing policy.
Mrs Barber said: “The purpose of the survey was to collect a broad range of information on housing conditions… to measure the effectiveness of housing policy and investment.”
The results informed initiatives like the Green Living Grant, which has supported energy efficiency upgrades in over 4,000 homes.

Chris Thomas pressed for action in Keys, saying that “government should look to work out its policy on dealing with those houses.”
He highlighted the need for broader repairs beyond energy efficiency, citing issues like leaking roofs.
Mrs Barber acknowledged the concerns, adding that people who lived in rented accommodation were offered follow-ups to” ensure standards were enforced.”
She also referenced the Landlord and Tenants Registration Bill as part of ongoing reforms.
The survey, now republished online, underscores challenges in older housing stock, particularly in areas like Laxey, Castletown, and Douglas.
