Four people were treated for smoke inhalation after a house fire in Patrick in the early hours of Saturday (December 23).
The alarm was raised just before 3am this morning with reports a kitchen fire had spread to the rest of the property.
When fire crews arrived they found the property was well alight with smoke and flames coming out of the windows.
House fire
Firefighters with Breathing Apparatus entered the property and used high pressure hose reels to fight the fire.
The occupants of house had managed to escape before fire crews arrived, however they were treated by Ambulance crews at the scene before being transferred to Nobles Hospital.
The fire service was on the scene for over three hours due to the intensity of the fire and roads around the area were closed by Police.
A spokesperson for IOM Fire said that due to the intensity of the fire hot spots could be found in the ceiling joists and a number of breathing apparatus teams had to work to locate these hot spots and stop further fire spread.
Care when cooking
Although the cause of the fire has not been announced, the fire service issued this advice this morning:
Can we also please ask that people are extra careful when cooking, the majority of house fires start in the kitchen and if you are cooking please ensure that:
- Cooking is not left unattended.
- No items are left on hobs.
- You do not cook when under the influence of alcohol or medication.
- Double check the cooker is off when you finish cooking.
- The oven, hob and grill is kept clean and in good working order
