Work on converting the first two Shoprite stores to Tesco will begin in the New Year.
Shoprite stores in Douglas and Castletown will cease trading on Saturday, January 6.
Tesco says each store will be refitted and store layouts changed.
The supermarket giant will convert nine former Shoprite stores into Tesco Superstores and four Tesco Express convenience stores over the next 12 months.
Tesco takeover
Earlier this year, Shoprite (Isle of Man) Limited announced the sale of its nine stores on the Isle of Man to the supermarket giant.
The acquisition of the Shoprite stores will bring the number of Tesco stores on the island to ten, including its existing store in Douglas.
Deryck and Kevin Nicholson, from Shoprite, said it was a historic moment for their business and they have “carefully considered this decision” and are “pleased” to pass the business on to the superstore.
“We wish to express our gratitude for the loyal support of our staff, suppliers and customers and we would like to sincerely thank them for being part of our journey for more than 50 years.”
New jobs
It is said that the takeover will create 107 new in-store jobs on the Island.
Tesco has confirmed it has been in discussion with local suppliers and has been working in partnership with the Manx Government who have created a funding scheme.
It will be linking prices locally with those in the UK post-transition, plus a small additional fee for transportation, in line with its approach at the existing Douglas store.
