Local man, Max Oyston and his loyal metal detector have successfully retrieved a woman’s wedding and engagement rings.
A search for help was called on New Years Day after the jewellery was lost during a dip in the sea at Derbyhaven.
Max was only happy to help and accompanied by his and his wife’s golden retrievers (Otty and Lily), the quest began.
Retrieval of the rings
He made his first attempt to find the sentimental items yesterday (January 2), but sadly the tide was too high and he was unsuccessful.
As Abraham Lincoln once said “my great concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are content with your failure”, clearly Max was not.
The failed attempt did not dampen hopes for Max, who went back out this morning (January 3) at first light with Otty and Lily in tow.
With the tide being more favourable, he found both the rings.
Manx.news have been told that the owner of the rings has been informed and she is on her way to be reunited with them.
Metal detector
This is not the first time a metal detector has been useful in finding cherished items lost on the Islands beaches.
Earlier this year, Zoe Sowrey located her husbands wedding ring on Ramsey beach and days later helped out another couple in finding theirs.
