I’m treating you weekend weather fans to a hump day weather report.
I call it that, in reality it’s my miserable thoughts on whether it will snow tomorrow (February 8) or be a big let down (similar to other things on the Island that are out of the publics hands… sorry I digress).
The real question here is: Is it going to snow or no?
I scroll through forecasts near and far, XC is changing its mind more than Heysham Ports (you know, the reason the Manxman can dock and sometimes can’t), one minute it says yes we will be digging ourselves out due to snow, the next it is just going to lamp it down with rain.
Snow or no?
There is no arguing the temperature has dropped and according to the Ronaldsway Met Office, who have issued an Amber weather warning from 10am – 11pm tomorrow (February 8), there will be an area of rain, sleet and snow will arrive mid to late morning as the easterly wind increases strong to gale force (50-55mph).
Now, we all should know that an easterly wind can be savage – remember the beast from the east?!
I would actually be tempted to say (with my deep knowledge of weather) we could see a dumping – how long before the Mountain shuts.. taking bets now (its a joke! I’m not starting a gambling ring).
The Met Office reckons “significant accumulations” are expected over higher ground (above around 500 FT) with the risk of disruption (bets the Mountain will be shut from 2pm – you heard it here first).
Areas above around 500 FT are most at risk of seeing significant accumulations of snow (5-10cm) with a small risk of 15-20cm above 1000 FT.
Given the strength of the wind significant blowing snow is possible leading to deep drifts in places, more especially towards the west of the island.
Rain or sleet is expected for low-level coastal areas with only temporary slushy accumulations possible depending on the intensity of the precipitation. This more likely for western areas such as Peel.
Slightly milder air later in the evening and overnight into Friday will lift the snow level with only rain or sleet for lower-levels.

XC weather forecasts are showing that no we are not getting snow, but yes we are getting rain.
It shows the North West of England getting a bit of the ol’ white stuff.
Throwing the fate of the Island roads and levels of disruption into Windy’s weather forecast; yes we will get snow and a fair bit of it.
Truthfully, I couldn’t care less about whether it does or not.
The only thing I hope is that if it does snow the videos of cars skidding on Broadway make an appearance and the commentary is as brilliant as ever.
