Reigning Eventing World Champion, Yasmin Ingham, has started the Olympic year with a second and fourth in her first competition of the season.
Competing at Poplar Park in East Suffolk, the Greeba native took her two top horses Banzai du Loir and Rehy DJ to compete in the Open Intermediate.
She finished second on her World Champion, Banzai, finishing on a score of 35.10, the pair picked up a few cross country time faults, which is no surprise as the pair won’t want to have the ‘foot firmly down’ this early on in what could be a very big year.
Her Nations Cup partner, Rehy DJ, followed closely behind in fourth place on a score of 39.10, again just picking up a few time penalties in less than ideal weather conditions.
Following the two double clears, Ingham told Manx.News, that both horses were ‘unreal’ and she ended up tackling the cross country track on Banzai in the hail!
Both top horses are entered for the Open Intermediate at Lincolnshire Horse Trials this coming weekend (March 15).
Ingham secured Olympic qualification
Last year, Yasmin Ingham secured qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics on her World Champion, Banzai Du Loir and her silver medal Nations Cup partner Rehy DJ, both owned by Janette Chinn and The Sue Davis Fund.
Ingham and Rehy DJ were part of the British team at the final round which was held at Boekelo in the Netherlands last year.
Speaking at the time to Energy FM on the achievement, Ingham said: “It’s always a great privilege to represent my country at a Nations Cup, especially at a final.
“Rehy DJ put on a fantastic performance all week, but sadly one little mistake on the cross country cost us an individual top four place. However, its still amazing to be part of a silver medal winning team.”
