Calf of Man Bird Observatory Estate Warden, Chloe Hurst, is vlogging her adventures of living on the Calf of Man.
These videos will give you a snapshot of the wardens day-to-day life.
Chloe has uploaded her second video from the calf, which gives ‘an insight into the first 2 weeks back on the island’.
Chloe says, “The Calf is uninhabited over the winter so the old stone farmhouse is very cold and damp and the outbuildings have similarly been exposed to the elements”.
Living on the Calf
The main jobs for the wardens are building, decorating, repairs and lots of cleaning to get the island up and running.
Chloe says, ‘I hope to showcase the work carried out by myself and Mike, who make up the Estate Team this year.
‘The Estate work often goes on behind the scenes, so as well as providing nature and wildlife content, I would also like to incorporate our daily tasks and the challenges that we tackle to keep the Calf safe and running as it should – all part of life on a remote island.’
Wardens
Chloe is one of four Wardens living and working on the Calf of Man, a remote island, Bird Observatory and Nature Reserve located in the Irish Sea.
The island is owned by Manx National Heritage and run in partnership with the Manx Wildlife Trust and the wardens are here for the season, that runs from March to November.
At the age of 28, Chloe has just quit her job to “pursue a different lifestyle, a simpler way of life closer to nature”.
