William Christian has triumphed at the BJJ Junior World GI & NoGi Championship.
The teenager was competing in the “Teen 2 (14 & 15 year olds), White belt, under 68kg” bracket.
Jordan Christian said: “On the first day, William excelled in the Gi division, which involves wearing the traditional kimono-style uniform.
“This category allows for a variety of grips and holds on the clothing, adding a layer of strategy to the match. William demonstrated exceptional technique and composure, winning both of his matches by points decision and securing a well-deserved gold medal, making him Junior World Champion for his division.
“The second day presented a different challenge in the NoGi division, where competitors wear shorts and rash guards. Without the grips on the Gi, the NoGi matches often require faster, more dynamic grappling. William faced a tough opponent in a hard-fought round, ultimately losing by points decision and taking home a silver medal. His resilience and sportsmanship were evident throughout the competition.
“William’s achievements reflect not only his personal commitment but also the strong support and training provided by T45 Isle of Man. His success in Wolverhampton highlights the growing prominence of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the Isle of Man and the wider region.
