Manx Telecom (MT) has announced it will scrap its £6 fee for providing duplicate bills via email.
The company said that after ‘recent feedback’, they would no longer be charging for this.
However a spokesperson for MT refuted claims made yesterdays in a news item on Manx.News, that these were ‘new charges’ coming in next month..
The company told Manx.News that the £6 charge had actually been on their list of charges for many years and that a member of staff in Credit Control had incorrectly stated that this was a ‘new charge’ from next month.
The fee was originally brought in over ten years ago for ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) purposes such as for bank verification.
Manx Telecom is reassuring customers that no new charges are being applied for digital bills, but the £4.20 will remain for monthly paper bills.
The full statement from the company is below:
Statement
Manx Telecom is not introducing any new charges for bills. Customers using the MyMT online billing platform can access their last 12 months of bills for free at any time.
If a customer requests a duplicate bill by email or post, there is usually a £6 administration fee. However, the first email request is free, and customers are encouraged and provided guidance on how to use the online MyMT service. This fee has been in place for over 10 years and is typically needed for specific purposes like KYC for bank verification. Due to recent feedback, we will no longer charge for duplicate bills sent via email.
Customers who prefer to receive paper bills can still do so for £4.20 per month. The shift to digital bills aims to reduce paper use and environmental impact. Digital bills are free for all MyMT. As a large Island organisation with a commitment to ESG and net zero, this move has reduced our environmental impact by tens of thousands of sheets of paper every month and significantly reduces our carbon footprint.
For current MyMT users, there are no new charges for digital bills. No new billing charges or changes in terms and conditions have been introduced by Manx Telecom.
We hope this clarifies any confusion and reassures customers.
