Four years ago Michelle Haywood MHK made her view crystal clear that she wishes the island to move away from using fossil fuels.
Speaking on the 2021 Election Time programme the now Infrastructure Minister explained why she believes the island shouldn’t rely on fossil fuels.
She said: “The price of gas is set to go up astronomically next winter, it’s set to go up by 75%. That will hit every single home that has gas heating on the island.
“So there is hope that there are ways that we can actually make that a much more just transition as move away from fossil fuels, which we absolutely must do.”

Haywood said that she actively researches for those in marine sphere and environmental settings.
Speaking on the programme, she said: “Its almost like we must be staring down the barrel of a gun before we actually take some action.”
Barrel of a Gun
On Friday, Crogga announced that it will not take forward the project to extract gas from the field off the coast of the Isle of Man.
It says that “it has become clear that it will not be possible to agree workable terms” with the Department of Infrastructure.
It added that “no responsible gas exploration company should take on the significant timing and financial risks” that Crogga is being asked to bear.
Could this be the barrel of a gun?
