Article is ‘Untrue & Defamatory’

A newly appointed Member of the Legislative Council has said that an article about him is both patently untrue and defamatory.

The Jewish Chronicle claims that Gary Clueit “questioned how many Jews were killed in Holocaust”.

It also said that Mr Clueit “questioned whether Hamas kidnapped babies”.

The article says that Mr Clueit’s appointment to the island’s upper chamber “has sparked outrage”.

It says that “Manx Jewish community member Michael Josem condemning the Member of the House of Keys (MHKs) who nominated Clueit as “incapable of the judgement required for Tynwald”.”

Mr Josem told the Jewish Chronicle that “These comments are very concerning, and we want a comprehensive, independent and public investigation into this. The Isle of Man cannot become the Isle of Hate.”

In a response to Manx.News Mr Clueit said that the “title of that article is both patently untrue and defamatory”.

Yesterday (March 11), Gary Clueit was sworn in to serve for five years as an MLC.
