CAMHS Launch New Talk Service

A new ‘Talk’ service has been developed to help transform the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service over the next three years. 

Around £1m of the £4m secured in 2024 was ring-fenced to create the new Talk service, which will be delivered in partnership between CAMHS and Isle Listen. 

This service will be a new and innovative approach aiming to offer a timely and responsive service to young people and their families experiencing mental health difficulties.

Talk Service

A Self-Referral process will be available to older children, families and carers via a dedicated website or alternatively by telephone or dedicated walk in sessions.

This ‘single point of access’ component, set to go live in Spring 2025, will offer prompt access to assessments, advice, information, and, where appropriate, talking-based psychological therapies. 

CAMHS will collaborate with the Talk service to ensure those with complex or high-risk needs receive prompt assessment and treatment from specialists.

Help at Secondary Schools

Additionally with the funding, Manx Care are now able to fund the six dedicated Wellbeing Practitioners in place at all of the island’s secondary schools, and extend this school-based support to the Isle of Man College.

This early intervention approach aims to support young people with emerging mental health difficulties and provide relevant support, advice, and interventions to meet their needs.

The Mental Health and Wellbeing practitioners will receive additional specialist training to support them in delivering positive outcomes for young people.
