Learn About Organ Donation Changes

Members of the general public are being invited to information events about the new rules for human tissue and organ donation.

The Human Tissue and Organ Donation Act received Royal Assent in 2021 and is currently undergoing the legislative and operational steps to bring it into effect.

When the law changes, adults over 18 who have not opted out and are not in an excluded group will be considered organ donors when they die.

However, families will always be consulted before a donation goes ahead.

Public Events

A consultation was launched on Monday (March 31) to ask the public for their view on the proposed changes.

To support the consultation, public information events will be held across the island this month, with two sessions at each location:

These events will give people the chance to learn more about the proposals, ask questions, and share their views.

Prior interest can be registered via EventBrite, or just turn up on the day.
