Gary Thompson, Clerk of the Course, has thanked the public, marshals, and competitors for their patience amid a week of weather disruptions.
Mr Thompson acknowledged the challenges faced: “Obviously, we’ve had a difficult week so far, lots of disruptions, lots of revisors of the schedule, but we are doing our best to get the event in.”
He reserved special praise for the marshals, calling them his “eyes and ears around the course” and commending the “orange army” for their efforts.
Mr Thompson highlighted the dedication of mountain marshals, who remain in position despite road openings: “The marshals do have to stay in position on the mountain… it’s a long day for them.”
Rest Day
With races rescheduled due to high winds and rain, Thompson emphasised the goal of preserving Thursday as a rest day:
He said: “We’re trying to preserve Thursday because… it’s been a difficult event to manage.” Adding: “We all deserve a day off to take a rest and enjoy other aspects of the event.”
Despite the setbacks, Mr Thompson remained optimistic: “We’ve had a fantastic two races yesterday. Hopefully we’ll get another fantastic two races today.”
He concluded by urging fans to “continue enjoying the racing” and assured them Race Control would “do what we can to continue putting the event on for you.”
