A mother who fought to change the law on organ donation has spoken of her pride at achieving her goal.
This week Tynwald approved measures to introduce an opt-out system, set to take effect on 1 January 2026.
Diane Taylor, whose son Daniel Boyde died in 2007 aged 15, said: “We both feel incredibly proud.
“It’s just amazing. Still can’t believe it’s happened. Daniel’s in everything that I do every day. Today’s a day I know I can’t tell him. I just hope that he knows how proud we are of him.”
He would have the most biggest cheesy grin today. He’d just be so happy to know that his legacy is going to go on and he can help more people.
Diane urged people to talk about organ donation and not leave it until the law changes next year.
She said: “Don’t wait till the first of January, talk about it today. It’s so important to talk about it.
“We all think it won’t happen to us, but it does.”
Reflecting on her own experience, she said: “We found out and had to make a decision the most traumatic time.”
Diane added “If you go on the NHS website, there’s tools about how you can start the conversation.” Nearly 60,000 people on the Isle of Man have already registered their organ donation choices.
