David Cowin, a trainee paralegal from Onchan, is among nearly 500 UK Scouts taking part in the 16th World Scout Moot in Portugal.
The event, running from 25th July in Lisbon to its conclusion in Porto, brings together 9,000 Scouts aged 18 to 25 from across the globe.
Participants are immersing themselves in Portuguese culture, with a four-day expedition through remote regions before regrouping in Ovar for skill-building and cultural activities.
David said: “I’ve made some good friends in the run up to this, so it’s been great to spend time with the other UK participants before we even get to Lisbon. It’s going to be great to meet even more new people when we get there.
“This is really a unique opportunity to meet people and immerse ourselves in cultures from around the world, but we’ve all got that key anchor of Scouting which unites us. It’s really special.”
Engage
This year’s theme, ‘engage,’ focuses on cross-cultural exchange and community impact. The event is supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
