Michael Gahan and Chris Cook led the way in the opening session of Manx Grand Prix qualifying, topping the Supertwin and Supersport classes respectively.

Gahan posted a 111.85mph lap to head the Supertwin timesheets, narrowly edging out local favourite Jamie Williams (111.79mph).

Newcomer Eddy Wormald impressed with 110.10mph, while Manx rider Grant Thomson was second-fastest rookie at 108.76mph.

In Supersport, Cook set the benchmark with a superb 117.73mph lap, followed by Williams (116.95mph) and Andy Farrell (116.58mph).

Wormald again led the newcomers with 113.79mph, with Thomson close behind at 113.04mph.

Williams admitted he was “just tootling around, getting a feel for it again”.

Local newcomer Blake Kelly said: “To spend so many years watching from the hedges, and now to be on the other side, is a dream come true.”

Qualifying continues tonight.
