The DoI has agreed to change its plans for new speeds limits on just four roads in Douglas and Onchan.
Other than Groves Road, Victoria Road, Tromode Road and Whitebridge Road, all roads in those areas will stick to the DoI’s proposed new limits which includes significantly more 20mph zones.
This follows the results of a public consultation which attracted 558 responses.
Infrastructure Minister Dr Michelle Haywood said: “The consultation was valuable because it helped the Department to adjust the proposals to take account of local circumstances and views.”
Changes
As a result, Groves Road, Victoria Road and Tromode Road in Douglas will now remain at 30mph, rather than being reduced to 20mph.
In contrast, a section of Onchan’s Whitebridge Road will become a 20mph zone, where it was initially proposed to stay at 30mph.
A final Traffic Regulation Order will be advertised from November 11 to 28, allowing for further public comment.
The DoI says the 20mph policy aims to improve road safety and support healthier, more active travel. Consultations for other regions of the island are either concluded or ongoing.
