The DoI has arranged for the installation 68 new poles as part of the planned 20mph speed limit areas in Douglas and Onchan.
Minister Dr Michelle Haywood, replying to a question from Onchan MHK Rob Callister, said they are being “implemented on an area-wide basis”.
An additional 22 poles are planned near schools, though only the sockets have been installed so far.
Dr Haywood said: “The 20 mph signs around schools serve as an additional reminder for drivers to take extra care when travelling through these locations, which fall within the broader 20 mph zone.”
The 68 installed poles are not specifically linked to schools but may coincidentally be near them.
The Minister noted: “Some poles have been installed as replacements of damaged poles, but this was not a specific criterion in the decision-making process.”
The final speed limits for each road will be determined after public consultation feedback is reviewed. The work is being carried out by CCI Limited under contract with the Department.
